District Elected Officials

The Honorable Judge Janna Whatley has announced that she is seeking reelection to the 343rd District Court bench. Judge Whatley was elected to that position in 2000 and took office January 1, 2001.

The 343rd District Court hears a variety of cases, both civil and criminal, which includes felonies, juvenile and family law matters as well as general civil litigation. Since taking office, Judge Whatley has presided over more than 200 jury trials. Her district includes Bee, Live Oak, McMullen, San Patricio and Aransas counties.

Except for her time at Texas A & M University, College Station and at Baylor School of Law, Waco, Judge Whatley has lived all of her life in Odem. She was Odem High School’s Class of 1981 Valedictorian. In 1984, she graduated Cum Laude from Texas A & M with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Economics. Judge Whatley continued her education at Baylor School of Law, graduating in 1987. At that time she began her legal career and practice in Sinton, with Joseph & Johnson, P.C. The firm later became Joseph & Whatley, P. C., with whom she stayed until her election to the 343rd District Court bench in 2000.

“It is hard to believe how fast my three terms as the 343rd District Court Judge have passed. Serving the residents of Bee, Live Oak, McMullen, San Patricio and Aransas Counties as one of the district judges has been an honor and privilege these last 11 years. My family, friends and many supporters have encouraged me to continue as your district judge and it is with great pleasure that I have filed for reelection”, said Judge Whatley.

Judge Whatley and her husband, Trey Williams, continue to make their home in Odem, where they are raising their two children, ages 17 and 14.

Judge Whatley has filed for a place on the Republican Party General Primary Ballot for March 6, 2012. The General Election will be held in November, 2012.
